Connecting Google Search Console to ChatSEO
Link your Search Console during onboarding or from the settings, pick the right property and know what to do when your site does not show up.
Search Console gives ChatSEO your real Google numbers: clicks, impressions and positions. Access is read-only: ChatSEO never modifies your Search Console data, and you can cut the connection whenever you like.
It is included from the Starter plan up (see ChatSEO plans).
During onboarding
During your first analysis, ChatSEO offers to connect it with the Connect my Search Console button. It is optional: click Later to carry on without it, you can connect it afterwards from the settings.
Once you have authorised access at Google, ChatSEO links the property that matches your site. If there is a choice to make, select your property in the list, then click Continue.
From the settings
The connection is set up per site:
- Click your profile in the bottom left corner, then Settings.
- Under Workspace, open Sites.
- Pick the site.
- Open the Integrations tab.
- On the Google Search Console row, click Connect GSC account, then Connect with Google, and grant read-only access.
- Choose the property to use, then click Connect property.
On Google's consent screen, keep the Search Console access box ticked: without it, ChatSEO cannot read your properties.
It is the same tab as for Google Analytics.
Picking the right property
In the list, the properties that match your site are tagged matches domain. Search Console has two kinds:
- Domain property: the whole domain, www included. Prefer this one, because it covers every version of your addresses.
- URL prefix: only addresses that start this way. Numbers can therefore be partial.
If your numbers look too low, first check which property is linked. For the domain to declare on the ChatSEO side, read which domain to enter.
Changing property or disconnecting
Once connected, the Google Search Console row shows Connected, the Google account used and the linked property. Click the property to pick another one, or Disconnect to cut access.
Disconnecting Search Console does not delete your site: see deleting, replacing or adding a site.
What ChatSEO gets from it
- your site's clicks, impressions, click-through rate and average positions, over the last 28 days by default;
- the keywords driving your traffic;
- recommendations based on your real data.
Without Search Console, ChatSEO works from your site's public Google rankings. The details are in where ChatSEO's numbers come from.
If it gets stuck
- Google did not grant access. Start the connection again and check that the Search Console access box is ticked on Google's screen.
- "This Google account does not expose any Search Console property." You are probably signed in with the wrong Google account: try again with the one that manages your site.
- The account has properties, but none for your domain. Verify this domain in Google Search Console, or connect another Google account. During onboarding, Create my site's property explains how to add it: Google asks you to prove the site is yours, usually with a TXT record to copy at your domain name provider. Then come back and click Done, try again.
- "Not found in your connected GSC accounts". The Google account already linked does not hold this site: click Connect another account.
- "Google connection expired". Click Reconnect and grant access again.
Still stuck?
Message us in the chat with your domain and the Google account you used, and we will look into it with you.
