Is Moz Free? What You Get for $0 in 2026

In short

Partly. A free Moz account gives 10 Link Explorer queries a month, limited Keyword Explorer and the MozBar extension, and Domain Analysis gives 3 reports a day. Moz Pro is paid: a 7-day trial with a card on the Medium plan ($179 a month after), plans from $49.

A Domain Authority score shows where a site stands, not what to do on yours. ChatSEO reads your Search Console and tells you which pages to work on first.

Answer 4 questions: free account, free tools, trial or Moz Pro

πŸ”¬ How I checked what Moz gives for free

I went through every page where Moz talks about free access: the Moz Pro pricing page and its FAQ, the free SEO tools page, Link Explorer, Domain Analysis, and the Moz Pro trial signup itself. Every limit and price below was checked on Moz's official pages on October 31, 2026. ChatSEO appears near the end because it is the tool I co-founded: it is paid, with a trial, and I say so.

My take after years of SEO for clients: free Moz is the cheapest way to read Domain Authority, and that is about it. Ten link queries a month will not run a link-building campaign.

πŸ“Š Is Moz free? The answer at a glance

Moz has free tools and a free account, but Moz Pro itself is paid. You can test Moz Pro for 7 days with a card, then plans start at $49 a month.

Option Price What you get The catch
Moz free account (Moz Community) $0, no card Link Explorer, Keyword Explorer, MozBar 10 link queries a month
Domain Analysis $0 Domain Authority, top pages and keywords of any site 3 reports a day
Moz Pro 7-day free trial $0 for 7 days Moz Pro Medium Card required, then $179 a month
Moz Pro Starter $49/month Moz Pro for one website No trial on this plan
Moz Pro Standard $99/month, or $79 billed yearly 3 sites, 300 tracked keywords 1 user

πŸ†“ Moz free SEO tools: the 3 ways to use Moz for free

Moz Link Explorer, the free backlink checker with 10 free queries a month

A free Moz Community account gives you limited access to Link Explorer, Keyword Explorer and MozBar, in Moz's own words on its pricing FAQ. No card, no end date.

  • Link Explorer: Moz's backlink checker, with 10 free queries a month. You get Domain Authority, Page Authority, Spam Score, linking domains, anchor text and the links your competitors have that you do not, on any site.
  • Keyword Explorer: volume, difficulty and keyword ideas, with limited free use.
  • MozBar: a free browser extension that shows Domain Authority and Page Authority on every page and every Google result you open.

Ten queries a month is one or two checks a week. It is enough to see who links to your site and to size up a competitor before you write, not to prospect links at scale.

2. Domain Analysis and the other free checkers

Moz Domain Analysis gives 3 free reports a day on any domain: Domain Authority, top pages, ranking keywords and the sites competing with it in Google. Moz adds a Brand Authority checker, a Competitive Research tool, a local citation checker, MozCast for Google algorithm swings and its Google algorithm update history.

A word on Domain Authority: it is Moz's own score, not a Google metric. It estimates how likely a site is to rank, and it is useful to compare your site with the ones on page one before you pick a keyword. Our Moz DA vs Ahrefs DR guide compares it with Ahrefs' score.

3. Google Search Console: the free data Moz estimates

Google Search Console homepage

Search Console is not a Moz product, but it gives what Moz can only estimate: your real Google clicks, impressions and positions for every query, with 16 months of history and no monthly quota.

Read a position only with an exact page and an exact query as filters: the site-wide average mixes thousands of queries. Free Moz for authority, Search Console for your own results: that pair costs $0.

πŸ’Έ Is there a Moz Pro free trial?

Yes: 7 days of Moz Pro Medium, with a card. The signup asks for billing details, shows "no charge today", then a monthly charge of $179 plus taxes after 7 days unless you cancel. On the pricing page, the free trial sits on the Medium plan only.

Moz Pro pricing page in October 2026: Standard $99, Medium $179 and Large $299 a month

Moz Pro starts at $49 a month. Starter ($49) is built for one person managing a single website. Standard costs $99 a month ($79 billed yearly) for 1 user, 3 tracked sites, 300 tracked keywords and 400,000 pages crawled a month. Medium costs $179 ($143 yearly) for 2 users, 10 sites and 1,500 keywords; Large costs $299 ($239 yearly). Paying yearly saves 20%, an extra user costs $49 a month, and Moz says you can cancel "at any time, no questions asked".

What you pay for is volume and tracking. Paid plans lift the 10-query limit, track your rankings and crawl your site. Moz Pro also sells AI visibility dashboards with tracked prompts; on a small budget, track 3 to 5 real prompts by hand before you pay for that. If you weigh Moz against the biggest suite, our Semrush vs Moz Pro comparison has the detail.

Try ChatSEO

ChatSEO: best for knowing what to do next

ChatSEO is the tool I co-founded, and it is not free: you get a 7-day trial with 30 credits, then plans start at €29 a month, or €23 a month billed annually. The card is asked at signup and charged on day 7 unless you cancel, with a reminder 3 days before.

It answers the question a Domain Authority score leaves open: which page to work on first. It reads your Search Console, compares your site with your competitors on live keyword and backlink data, and returns a prioritized list. It does not give Moz's Domain Authority, and it does not crawl a whole site: keep free MozBar for DA, and know that ChatSEO checks pages one by one.

⚠️ The limits that catch people out

⚠️Warning

The Moz Pro trial turns into a $179 plan. The trial is Medium, not the $49 Starter: cancel before day 8 or switch plans if you want the cheaper one.

  • 10 Link Explorer queries a month, not a day: plan them.
  • 3 Domain Analysis reports a day: fine for a quick look, short for a list of competitors.
  • No free rank tracking: Moz's free tools show a snapshot, Search Console shows your real positions.
  • Domain Authority is not a Google ranking factor: use it to compare sites, never as a goal in itself.
